What a joy headlining the The Laughing Tap in Milwaukee this weekend and then heading back to Rosemont to do a midnight show at Zanies! Eased COVID restrictions means more folks can attend the shows, which I was able to witness this weekend in Milwaukee and soon will see in Chicago. I’m excited to see bigger crowds and also eager to hit comedy clubs in cities where I can bring people out. Please tell me if you are interested in seeing me perform in your city by listing the city you are in below in the comments as I want to go to new places in 2021 and make new people laugh. I am also excited to continue my charitable work with half the proceeds of my "Better Call Paul" shirts going to the Parkinson's Foundation in June and July. You can get a shirt on my website or at a show. See you soon, I hope.
#comedy #careerchange #laughteristhebestmedicine #parkinsonsresearch Where do you see yourself in 5 years? This is the question I always hated because I never could see where I would be. Were you asked me that question 5 years ago, or when I graduated from last school at 25, I would not have been able to say stand up comedian/writer and podcaster. While I clearly appreciate the advantages of having a plan and preparing, there is something to be said about working hard and adjusting to what opportunities come your way. Last week, I recorded my first comedy special for TV. That was something I thought I would never say. I think the pandemic pause may have given us all a time to reflect and decide what our goals are and what we want to do in our lives. It did for me. While I don't know where I will be in five years, I do know that what I am doing now keeps me happy and as a result, I will have options. Or as David Bowie famously didn't say but is quoted as saying, "I don't know where I am going from here, but I know it won't be boring." (Picture is me almost 10 years ago on the Laugh Factory stage for the first time)
#standupcomedy #careerchange #wednesdaywisdom #stages Back home in Chicago! It was electrifying to perform again on my home stage at Laugh Factory Chicago this past weekend alongside some of my comedian friends, after such a long break on the road and in Florida. I also produced a few new shows that will continue in May and hopefully beyond at Gman Tavern, Hey Nonny - Arlington Heights and
Tomorrow I return to Chicago for "good" after being in Florida and on the road (Minneapolis, Nashville, Las Vegas, Scottsdale, Detroit, Indiana) for the past six months doing shows (and being with my family). It's bittersweet to leave Florida, where I have been able to work on my craft, make new friends and see my family regularly. The shows have been amazing! Both shows I headlined on Saturday sold out (in two different nearby cities!)
I am also interested to see how my new jokes will work in Chicago. I always say "funny in funny" so I think they will. Sometimes I will tweak a few joke, depending on the crowd and city I am in. Hopefully I didn't lose my Midwest compass, being away from Chicago for so long. I am glad to be working almost every night when I return, so I hope to see you at shows this week in Arlington Heights, Oak Park and Chicago! I have some fun shows to announce next week as well. #comedyisback #chicagolawyer #comediansoflinkedin #chicago This past weekend, I was able to return to headline a club I headlined back in January in Florida. I was able to mix in some very new material with some very old material I have not done in years for crowds who may have seen me back in January. I was also able open for the hilarious Lynne Koplitz to close out the weekend. Shows were so fun but I am ready to return to Chicago. One last week of shows in Florida has me returning to St. Petersburg and Sarasota! If you know people here, tell them to come see me!
Yesterday I also confirmed that I will be recording my first special with Dry Bar Comedy network next month. This is a huge opportunity for me and I will be spending the next two weeks deciding what material I want to have air nationally. Its a combination of putting my best foot forward while saving some material for my next special. It has to be super clean too which makes it easier to pick what jokes to do. Speaking of TV appearances, my first sketch I wrote and star in for the "Off The Mound with Ryan Dempster" airs on the Marquee Sports Network this week. Look for it, Cubs fans!
